Nature Study Tuesday- August 10

COTTONWOOD

DSCN6737

Today we studied the cottonwood tree. Convenient, since that is the only tree in our yard. ;) We started by doing bark rubbings, and then we collected some leaf samples. We noticed how cottonwood trees don't make nice rubbings, since they have such rough cracked bark.

We talked about how old cottonwood trees can be, and how tall they grow.

We also saw lots of little critters.

This one was huge! Almost 2 inches across.

Grasshoppers are somewhat homely.
